THE STAGE (October 5th 2007).  Review by Barbara Lewis

THE JUST

Long before today’s suicide bombers, Nobel prize-winning existentialist Albert Camus explored the idea of dying for a cause and confronted the possibility it was ultimately a futile act.

[In] Benjamin Polya’s fresh, new version of Camus’ drama of moral struggle, [...] the characters’ inner agony is very physically and convincingly expressed.

FRINGE REPORT (October 2007).  Review by Bo Wilson

THE JUST

Alinka Wright is eminently watchable as Dora. [...]  James Sobol Kelly also stands out as damaged, dangerous Stepan, a fictional member of the group seeking revenge after being tortured by the secret police. Andrew James Storey, as the group's leader Boria Annenkov, shows a shocking, ugly side to his otherwise controlled character.

FIRST ACT MAGAZINE issue 11 (October 2007).  Article by Richard Hodkinson:

CAMUS FOR TROUBLED TIMES

Dan Horrigan, the show's director [...]

"We think that the new version accommodates the 21st

Century view. It’s not a black and white argument, and we
include some historical facts that didn’t make it into
Camus’ play in order to encourage our audience to view
the dilemma as something the characters agonise over.

"These characters are appalled by the choices they have to
make, they’re living in a kind of hell, so they’re already
suffering for the crime they’re about to commit. So the
new version of the play had to make sure that an audience
living today could empathise with those dilemmas.”
